Learn about trout and their habitat- what trout like to eat, where trout like to hang out…and how to catch them! We will discuss safe and ethical catch and release handling of trout. Students will learn basic roll casting, overhead casting (when to implement those casts), as well as drifting and mending. We will talk about fly selection and flip over rocks in the river to see what bugs our flies are imitating. Participants will learn to cast a dry fly as well as a heavy nymph rig with an indicator, and maybe tie a few basic knots. Most of all, we will spend the weekend expanding our knowledge of our river ecosystems and enjoying time spent on the water supporting each other and becoming independent anglers.
