Women in Silver
With Sandy Binion and Kathy Shann
September 20 - October 3, 2026
For experienced silversmiths — with or without lapidary experience — seeking inspiration, connection, and creative freedom.
Set against the stunning backdrop of Ghost Ranch in Abiquiú, New Mexico, Women in Silver is more than a workshop — it’s an artistic sanctuary. Often described as “an artistic think tank,” this open studio experience invites female silversmiths to immerse themselves in a supportive, inspiring environment where creativity flows and community thrives.
This is not a traditional class with structured lessons. You’ll enjoy full days of studio time to work at your own pace, on your own designs. Whether refining a personal project or exploring new techniques, help is always nearby — experienced peers and facilitators offer guidance and encouragement.
Founded by the late Judith Foster, who believed in nurturing new artists and welcoming women into a fold of experience and support, her legacy lives on in the spirit of this gathering.
Evenings offer optional studio hours, quiet time, or relaxed social gatherings — perfect for sharing stories, ideas, and laughter. Each group is unique, and there’s space to shape activities organically based on the interests and energy of the participants.
The studio is well-loved and well-worn — not state-of-the-art, but rich with history and heart. It’s stocked with shared equipment, and you’re welcome to bring favorite tools or materials.
Brass, copper, and a selection of slab and rough rock for lapidary work are included in your tuition. Sterling Silver and turquoise are available for purchase based on current market prices. Students typically spend $100–$300 on silver, depending on their projects. Ghost Ranch requests that silver purchases be paid by cash or check at the end of the session.
