Paleontology Tour

This tour focuses on Triassic fossils discovered here at Ghost Ranch, including our state fossil Coelophysis. Drive and then walk to the original quarry site and step back in time geologically and historically to better understand the significance of this famous dinosaur. Walking distance is 1.5 miles. Be prepared to walk for an hour and a half at an elevation of 6,400′. You will need sturdy shoes, a hat, water, sunscreen and a long-sleeve shirt or windbreaker. Note: Due to the elevation, dry environment, and challenging terrain this walking tour is not suitable for those with medical conditions or fragile health.

All tours include our Day Pass and access to the grounds, hiking trails, and our Museums of Anthropology and Paleontology. Please note our museums are closed on Sunday morning and Monday.
